What you'll be doing

The Brighter Beginnings initiative is a collaboration between NSW Health and NSW Department of Education to implement preschool health and development checks. The Occupational Therapy Student Educator will develop, coordinate and deliver screening, assessment, provision of recommendations and interventions through a student led model, to children in the Early Education setting.

The Student Educator is responsible for providing clinical supervision, teaching and co-ordination of educational activities for Occupational Therapy students on clinical placements. This involves liaison with education providers regarding educational outcomes of the clinical placement and student education and placement quality evaluation.

The Occupational Therapy Student Educator will also work in the Allied Health education team to provide education to Allied Health staff across Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD).

Selection Criteria

Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Occupational Therapist.

Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience of paediatrics and child development, and an understanding of screening tools and assessments used with young children including experience with care planning/case management.

Experience in the ability to design, develop and evaluate professional education, with qualifications in adult education or a willingness to obtain.

Evidence of excellent negotiation, decision making and advisory skills including abilities to effectively build and maintain professional relationships and interact collaboratively with stakeholders.

Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication skills including the proficient use of health based technology, or willingness to learn.

Demonstrated effective time management skills, ability to prioritise and to work with minimal supervision.

Excellent clinical reasoning skills and teaching skills and demonstrated ability to provide senior level of supervision to staff and students.

Current unrestricted drivers licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
