The Communications Manager delivers external and internal communications strategies to grow the reach and impact of Youth Foyers. Supported by our Leadership team, Operations Lead, and with strategic communications advice from our communications partner, the role is responsible for ensuring high quality communications via media, social media, publications, with key stakeholders and the team.
Requirements
Who you are (essential):
- You have exposure to or experience working as a Communications Manager;
- You have a growth mindset and are comfortable working in an evolving start-up environment to manage multiple competing priorities and projects;
- You have excellent communication, interpersonal and management skills with experience managing internal and external stakeholders;
- You are a strong writer with the ability to construct and deliver written work across a variety of mediums (social media, website, annual reports);
- You are able to take a high level view of a strategic process, whilst also being able to ‘roll up your sleeves' and get the work done;
- You have meticulous attention to detail and consider yourself to be highly process and procedure drive, and have the ability to balance this attention to detail with pragmatism to get things done;
- You are someone with experience in the not-for-profit sector or the capacity to quickly learn about the non-for-profit-context;
- You adopt a strengths-based approach to communication, focusing on the unique talents and potential of people with lived experience of homelessness rather than deficit-based labels and frames;
- You are a people person, who thrives working in collaborative environments whilst also excelling when working independently;
- You believe every young person deserves a thriving future and are prepared to work effectively with young people who have lived experience of homelessness and create the space for them to lead;
- You are proficient in the Google Suite of applications, Microsoft Suite of applications (i.e.Word, Excel and PowerPoint), LinkedIn and are adept at harnessing new technology and social media tools for communications purposes
Who you might be (desirable but not essential):
- You are a qualified professional with a tertiary qualification and/or specialised training in a field with an emphasis on communications and/or marketing; and/or
- You have experience working in a not-for-profit, social enterprise or start-up environment

Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Head of Collaboration and Strategic Communications Partner to inform the development and execution of campaign strategies
- Manage day to day communication and advocacy strategy execution, through effective project management and team collaboration
- Manage the Foyer Foundation website, e-newsletter, direct communications and social media platforms
- Coordinate the production of the Foyer Foundation Annual Report in collaboration with the CEO and external professionals
- Manage, plan, create, schedule and implement engaging and dynamic content for use across all our channels, optimising content for digital audiences to ensure alignment with, and enhancement of the Foundation's brand
- Work with external professionals in the creation or editing of engaging digital imagery and video content for the website and social media platforms

Who we are:
Our purpose at Foyer Foundation is to unlock thriving futures for young people aged 16-24 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We do this by growing the reach and impact of Youth Foyers. Youth Foyers provide a safe and stable home for up to 40 young people, integrating housing, education, employment and life skills supports, all under one roof.
There are currently 16 Youth Foyers across Australia, and we are in an exciting phase of growth and momentum working towards 50 Foyers by 2030.
Youth Foyers are delivered by a vast network of service providers, big and small, across Australia, working in communities in regional, remote and metro locations.
The role of the Foyer Foundation is to connect up this network and align activities nationally, gather evidence and insights, ensure quality Foyer services through learning and accreditation, and advocate with young people and our growing network. We play an entrepreneurial role, driving innovation and continuous learning and improvement across the Foyer network.
We are a networked organisation. We have a small core team and strong relationships with many external partners and collaborators, working together to achieve our collective goal of 50 Foyers by 2030.
