About the opportunity
Mercy Health Albury is a publicly funded 30-bed a subacute hospital in southern New South Wales offering a range of services including aged care assessment, day therapy programs, allied health, transitional aged care, geriatric evaluation management and palliative care.
The team at Mercy Health Albury look forward to welcoming the right applicant to the team to provide pastoral care support to our inpatients. This position is a job-share position and you will be working in a well-supported and friendly environment.
As Pastoral Care Associate you will be able to assess, triage and respond to diverse pastoral, spiritual and religious need across our inpatient services of Geriatric Evaluation Management Unit and Palliative Care Unit. You will need to be a strong communicator with experience in connecting and engaging with patients and families with diverse backgrounds and needs. You will have exceptional skills in providing pastoral care to bereaved families, including organising spiritual or other rituals as requested by the patient.
You will be required to engage collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide holistic care and make referrals to other services as required.

Important skills you will bring to the role:
- Teamwork skills to work as a member of the dynamic Mercy Health Albury team, providing respectful spiritual and emotional care to patients and families.
- Be able to assess, triage and respond to diverse pastoral, spiritual and religious needs. Be flexible, adaptable, with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Skills to engage collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide holistic care and make referrals as needed.
To thrive in this role, you will have:
- Completed at least two Clinical Pastoral Education units, or equivalent supervised pastoral care training, and eligible for certified membership of Spiritual Care Australia (SCA).
- Completed a Bachelor of Theology or relevant graduate qualifications
- Previous experience providing spiritual care in a health setting and able to function as an Independent Practitioner (Level 2 SCA Capabilities Framework)
- Excellent clinical, time management, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to adapt and problem solve.
- A compassionate, flexible and positive approach to effective patient care and management.
- The ability to nurture friendly, respectful relationships and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining:
- A current Police Record Check
- Current vaccinations as per NSW Occupational Assessment and Screening Vaccination policy
