A great opportunity to take a leading role in student education for a dietitian with depth of experienced in sub-acute clinical work and student education.
- Grade 3 Dietitian Senior Clinician (Clinical Educator) 32 hrs per week
- Fixed term: 28 January 2025 to 6 February 2026
- Location: primarily Heidelberg Repatriation (HRH) or Royal Talbot Rehabilitation (RTRC) and will need to travel between sites.
- Pay range as per classification AK1 to AK4: $53.84 to $62.71 per hour + salary packaging + super + higher qualification allowance if applicable

About the Nutrition and Dietetics Department
We are part of the Allied Health division, which employs over 1,000 health professionals across 27 disciplines, broadly known as the therapies and sciences, who work as key members of the multidisciplinary team aiming to provide the best outcomes for patients via preventing, diagnosing and treating a range of healthcare conditions.
The Nutrition and Dietetics department has 50 staff members across three sites - Austin (acute care), Repat (sub-acute care) and Talbot (rehabilitation), providing services to inpatients, outpatients and home & community programs. We operate as one department and come together for staff meetings and continuing education.
Our work environment is vibrant and fast paced and we are a friendly and supportive team. We have many highly skilled and experienced dietitians who lead our clinical teams and department portfolios. Our clinical streams are specialist medicine, ICU/surgical/gastro, oncology, paediatrics & mental health, sub-acute care and ambulatory care. We have portfolios to support the work we do in staff education, student training, quality and safety, research, nutrition support, food service, outpatient services and workforce operations.
About the role
You will be coordinating clinical placements for students from Deakin and Swinburne Universities. These placements occur across most of the year, starting in February and ending mid-December. You will be based on the HRH or RTRC site and work as part of our Student Education Portfolio and Subacute-Rehabilitation and/or Ambulatory Care streams. You will share student education responsibilities with the Clinical Educator located at the Austin site.
You will be supported by, and work closely with, the Dietetics department Grade 4 Student Education lead. Your clinical work allocation will be complimentary to the educator role and will be based in the Subacute-rehabilitation and/or Ambulatory Care streams. Work areas may include inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and home-based programs. Your workload allocation may vary over time according to operational needs across the department.
The vacancy is 32 hours per week, but internal applicants could do the role at 40 hours/week if wanting to maintain some of their current hours. You must be able to work at least four days per week, ideally five; be able to move between all campuses; meet commitments related to the student training program for Deakin and Swinburne Universities and be flexible in your ability to attend relevant meetings.
About you
- Minimum 7 years of relevant dietetic experience.
- Accredited practising dietitian status.
- Interest and experience in student training in a tertiary hospital.
- Sound clinical nutrition knowledge in a broad range of areas.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and to work effectively with others and in a team environment
- Clinical teaching, training and supervision skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective counselling skills and commitment to patient-centred care.
- Demonstrated organisational skills, efficient workload management and ability to prioritise.
